Education for Adults and Students The study of Scripture is fundamentally important for the nurturing of faith. Christ demonstrates that Baptism and continued study go hand in hand when He says to His apostles, "Going, therefore, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to keep all things I have given you" (Mt. 28:19-20). Therefore, Calvary emphasizes the continued study of the Word of God - both as heads of house lead the study at home, and as we gather to study the Scriptures at church. Just as all are invited to attend the Divine Service, so also we welcome all to study with us the Word of God.

Sunday Morning Classes at Calvary
Adults and Sr. High Youth: This year, Pastor Bestul leads us in a study of The First Letter to the Corinthians. Join us, as we learn how Paul's letter to Corinth is also Paul's letter to Kane County!

Catechism Instruction: For three years (usually 6th-8th grade), students are taught the Christian Faith, using Dr. Martin Luther's Small Catechism as their guide. Each Sunday, the students gather to memorize the Catechism and to learn how to properly hear and distinguish Law and Gospel in the sermon. Each Wednesday, students meet with the pastor to apply their learning (see the Weekday classes below).

Sunday School for PreK-5th Grade: Children use the Sunday School hour to learn the accounts of the Scriptures; learn the Commandments, Apostles' Creed, and Lord's Prayer; memorize Bible verses; and sing songs and hymns that teach and confess the Faith.

Nursery: An infant/toddler nursery is available during the Sunday School hour - a safe and convenient place for parents to leave their youngsters while attending the morning's study hour.

Midweek Classes and Study Groups
Book of Concord Study Groups: Two study groups - one for men, one for ladies - meet every third Saturday to read and discuss the Lutheran Confessions as found in the Book of Concord. What is a Lutheran? What is the Lutheran faith? Why do we believe what we do? Join us to find out!

Senior Saints: This group meets each Tuesday from 10:30-11:40 for a study led by Pastor Bestul. This year's topic is "The Epistles." The final study of each month concludes with a luncheon. All are welcome to attend!

Ladies' Wednesday Study: Ladies of the congregation meet at Calvary every Wednesday morning to join in the study of God's Word. This year's topic is "The Epistles of Peter." All ladies are welcome!

Catechism Instruction: Students in their second and third year of Catechesis gather each Wednesday night from 7:00-8:15 to study basic Christian doctrine, as taught in the Lutheran church. Upon completion of this class, students are examined for entrance into communicant membership.

Lifelight Study Group: On periodic Tuesdays throughout the year, members of this group gather in each other's homes to study Biblical topics. Please contact the church office for more information about joining this group.

Annual Theological Conference: Each October, a guest lecturer is welcomed to Calvary for a Saturday presentation on Lutheran doctrine and practice. Guest speakers are usually seminary professors or parish pastors well-known throughout the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
